Soundcraft Studer
Soundcraft part of Harman International, use Studio 55 to produce video media for Advertising, Promotional and their training needs. We enjoy working with progressive creative companies that are keen to use all mediums including the internet and Youtube to get the message out.
We enjoy the technical challenges of a company like Soundcraft, and because of a good working relationship Studio 55 have come to understand their needs
Entrepreneur Channel
This was a very exciting project for us as it involved us creating a brand image for a completely new enterprise. The studio was built in a small converted Victorian warehouse in Aldershot, Surrey and presented us with some tricky challenges relating to space and access.

A three camera portable production unit was installed with live ingest to an AVID Lanshare system.
The Studio with three sets and lit by fluorescent cool lighting makes it a very comfortable environment to work in.
To reflect the modern business content of the channel bright, and stylish sets were created, relating to the heart of the business community – the City of London. By using mirrors and photo-printed backcloths, the illusion was that the broadcasts were coming from the epicentre of London.
Studio 55 have been directly involved in Programme Making, Programme design, Studio Management and now provide on-going support.
Uganda
The North affected by the LRA is a guerrilla campaign waged since 1987, arebel group, operating mainly in northern Uganda, but also in South Sudan and eastern DR Congo. The insurgency was historically confined to the region known as Acholiland, consisting of the districts of Kitgum, Gulu, and Pader, though since 2002 violence has overflowed into other Ugandan districts
In 2008 Studio 55 was invited to get involved with a charitable group in the North of Uganda who needed help to set up a small communications centre that could be used to produce video media to inform, give hope, instruct and motivate people who have been affected by the insurgencies.
The concept was to create a video unit that would be self sufficient, run by a Ugandan crew, serving not only businesses but charities and NGO’s in the area. Very quickly the team became involved with health workers and various charitable training programmes making simple videos about farming and hygiene.
Based in Lira and working with an NGO called VOM, we started by taking out cameras and an edit suite to train a young team the basics in video production.
It was important that we worked with an organisation that would take responsibility for the team when we left where they would have a level of accountability for them. Our first visit was a three-week intensive course in production skills. We covered programme design, shooting, scripting, editing and finally producing the finished DVD.
We were impressed that the team were so keen to learn we had to make the time to come out for a second visit later that year and continue with the training. We discovered that we had to build in certain mechanisms for continued support and helped to find technical support in Kampala (capital) for maintenance of equipment. We were also able to work with the team in terms of setting up the video business, we also worked on pricing structures and how to sell.
In 2010 we visited again to replace equipment, bring software upgrades and train new members of the team. We also assisted in developing a website to help market the services they can offer and we worked together to commission the business as Studio 55 Uganda.
It was amazing that the team should respond so well and we maintain contact regularly to help with ideas, any problems that crop up and we do this by using the internet and the telephone. They have continued to grow and have recently been instrumental in producing a film called “Election Violence”.
